Bible Study at Loomis Village

May 14, 2015 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

ADULT BIBLE STUDY IN MAY

In December 1945 an Arab peasant made an astonishing archeological discovery in Upper Egypt. Rumors obscured the circumstances of this find–perhaps because the discovery was accidental, and its sale on the black market illegal. The discoverer admits how his mother burned much of the papyrus in the oven along with straw to kindle the fire.

Those papyrus remaining (52) were sold on the black market through antiquities dealers in Cairo. The manuscripts soon attracted the attention of officials of the Egyptian government. And the rest is history. Depending on different scholars, these texts are dated anywhere from 120AD-350AD. Together we will read how they maybe meaningful for us today and why they evoke such controversy!

On May 14, 21, 28 from 10:30-11:30 we will meet in one of our members’ apartment in Loomis Village. There will be copies of what we will be reading available after May 1 in the church office and on our information tables.

May 14: The Gospel According to Mary Magdalene
May 21 and 28: The Infancy Gospel According to Jesus
